Ty Swartzlander, MD, FACOG
OBGYN
The son of a wildland firefighter and a nurse, Dr. Swartzlander was born and raised in rural California. During his early undergraduate years, he served a mission to Haiti for two years where he learned French and became fluent in Haitian Creole. Shortly after his return from Haiti, he met and married his wife, Trista. His experiences in Haiti later prompted a desire to play an active role in international medicine and global health and a strong desire to return to Haiti and provide medical aid. He studied at the University of California, Davis graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior. He was then accepted to the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine where he received his medical degree, and was awarded the Joseph A. Descenzo award for best graduating medical student with an interest in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He then accepted a residency position at Winnie Palmer Hospital in Orlando, FL where he held many leadership positions and served as chief academic resident his final year. He gained special skills in the use of ultrasound, the management of high risk pregnancies, and received special training in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. He then moved his family to Boca Raton, FL where he began his private practice “Boca Babes OBGYN.” In addition, he serves as a Clinical Affiliate Assistant Professor of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences at Florida Atlantic University. He has privileges at Boca Raton Regional Hospital and Bethesda Hospital. He lives with his wife, Trista and their eight children in Boca Raton.
Karen Vardi, ApRN, FNP-BC
Karen Vardi is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. She returned to school to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida and then earned her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.
Karen has experience in Women’s Health, Aesthetics, Weight management, Dermatology, Orthopedics, Medical- Surgical, Emergency, and Family medicine. Karen is passionate about preventative medicine and patient centered care. She takes great pride in educating and working together with her patients to achieve their overall goals.
Karen is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, The National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health, and The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
During Karen’s days off, she enjoys spending time with her husband and family. Attending fitness classes, concerts, and sporting events rooting for her favorite sports teams such as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Florida Panthers, and the Miami Heat.
Claire Smart, DNP, APRN, CNM
Claire Smart was born in Trinidad & Tobago and educated in the United States. She has practiced Nursing since 1993 and full scope Midwifery since 1999. Smart earned her doctoral degree from UMDNJ School of Nursing in nursing practice. She served as clinical professor at Rowan and Rutgers University. She is a registered nurse first assistant for surgery, certified in electronic fetal monitoring, advanced cardiovascular life support, neonatal resuscitation and advanced life savings in obstetrics. Smart is sensitive to the uniqueness of each patient’s situation and adapts her consultations and treatment options appropriately to accommodate the individual needs and concerns. Smart enjoys her life work, serving women throughout their lifespan, and has a passion for Menopause care.
